Pastor Dan
Secrist
Senior
Pastor
Our senior pastor, Dan Secrist, was born in
Olympia and spent most of his childhood right
here. Some of his ancestors actually came here
in covered wagons and homesteaded in the
mid-1800s. His grandfather pioneered churches in
this area, and his father was a carpenter whose
accomplishments included building 9 churches.
He attended Assembly of God churches and was
active in ministry at an early age with youth,
Bible quiz and missions. He graduated from
Northwest
University in Kirkland, WA and
returned to Olympia to become the youth pastor
at
Evergreen Christian Community.
In 1970 he joined
Youth With A Mission and ministered around
the world for the next 9 years. He pioneered
works in Spain, Morocco and Argentina. To date
he has visited 80 countries and continues to
carry a burden for getting the gospel into all
the world. A keen interest of his is reaching
out to the persecuted church, particularly in
restricted countries. Some of his more recent
trips include Guatemala, Cuba, Sudan and
Argentina. He is fluent in Spanish and preaches
in the Spanish language.
In 1977 he married Susan Forcier and they have 2
children: Justin and Tembi.
While in Argentina, they felt God's leading to
pioneer a church in the Northwest and on
December 9, 1978 they began the first service of
what today is Faith Assembly of Lacey. The
church has experienced remarkable blessings of
God and continues to grow and reach out to the
community and to the world with the Good News of
the love of God. Staff continues to be added,
freeing our pastor to pursue his vision of
prayer and preaching, leading and reaching out
both at home and abroad.
His beloved wife, Susan, died in January of 2007
after a 12 year battle with breast cancer. Just
10 days later their first grandchild, Micah
Jacob Secrist, was born.
After a year of being single he married Anita
Wheeler on April 5, 2008. They attended Bible
school together have known each other for 44
years. Anita’s first husband, Paul Wheeler,
pastored for many years until she was left a
widow in 2001. Her calling and life experience
prepared her well for ministry here.
Pastor Dan’s
personal hobbies include snow skiing in the
winter and maintaining his Japanese garden in
the summer.
